Codex on iPhone shipped — here's what works

Hey Reader,

OpenAI launched the Codex app, a great way to continue controlling your agents when you're on the go.

I've been using Remodex for weeks, which has been awesome. Being able to steer research while walking in the woods is super cool. I can get steps in while doing light work.

There are some gotchas with the new Codex/ChatGPT app today; by early next week, most of these issues should be resolved.

Here are 5 workarounds if you get stuck with Codex on iPhone.

Let me know what you're building with it.

5 Resources and Links

  1. Viktor created 10 apps last year to see what would resonate. If you want to build an app business, don't just make one app.
  2. Computer Use is now in Codex, allowing your agents to use a separate cursor to interact with apps alongside you.
  3. XcodeBuildMCP is one of the tools that allows agents to control your iOS Simulators. Dive in with Camereon Cooke.
  4. Antoine has a new update for RocketSim that is faster than XcodeBuildMCP. It uses caching to speed up CLI calls, uses fewer tokens, and prevents wrong taps.
  5. You can use Codex for product marketing. I have been doing app marketing with Codex for Super Easy Timer, and it has been very helpful.

P.S. If you want to market your apps, I would recommend using YouTube or X videos. X videos are more time-sensitive but can reach a large audience quickly, while YouTube videos can last much longer and benefit from long-tail search.

Without some kind of external links or promotion, your ASO keywords won't be as effective as they could be.

My app is now ranking for some keywords, but it's going to take marketing efforts to lift it higher in the rankings. Previously, it wasn't anywhere in the top search results for these new keywords I'm targeting.

P.P.S. I'm opening my calendar for App Coaching sessions. If you want help, I have some hours available next week. Reply and let's talk.

Hey Reader, I flew out to San Francisco to visit OpenAI. It was a whirlwind and super fun to meet the team behind the Codex app. And I was able to chat with developers to learn about their own workflows. Codex app and GPT 5.5 with Paul Solt

Hey Reader, My workflow with GPT-5.5 is completely different from GPT-5.4 — and this changed over the weekend. With GPT-5.4, I revived my 9-year-old Super Easy Timer app and pushed conversion from 0.5% to 7.1% over the past two weeks. This week, I had early access to GPT-5.5 and it unblocked my deprecated macOS dependencies in one shot. I wrote up exactly how I'm using the Codex app + GPT-5.5 to build iPhone and Mac apps faster — and how I'm using App Store reviews to write copy that actually...
