Master Xcode 16: Essential Navigation Shortcuts for Faster Coding

Hey Reader,

What keyboard shortcuts make you more productive?

I’m fascinated by productivity enhancements. When using Mac apps, I learn keyboard shortcuts to streamline my daily tasks. I might be editing a video, writing code, or editing a document in Markdown.

In Xcode, there are tons of keyboard shortcuts for building your app, testing, and configuring your editors.

From my experience, the more time I can keep my hands on the keyboard, the better. I avoid using the mouse and leverage keyboard shortcuts in all apps throughout the da.

macOS Development

Both videos use my new app, Slideshow Overlay, to make videos in this format.

I write my blog posts and emails using Markdown in Multimarkdown Composer. Sometimes, when I write, I want to create a video from my notes, which inspired this slideshow app. The goal was to create a slide deck using Markdown.

The app parses the Markdown headlines and bullet points to create the structure of the slideshow. Then, you can automatically generate new slides based on that structure and slideshow options.

You can do a topic slideshow, or you can do an 11-point numbered slideshow.

Watch and see how I revamped the initial MVP app:

  • Saving and loading settings
  • Unifying the view model logic across UIKit and SwiftUI
  • Fixing bugs

My initial version worked enough to use it for several videos, but I still had to build the app from Xcode to make slideshows because not all of the features were working.

After hitting those rough edges this past week, I dove back into the code and fixed the biggest bugs.

What apps are you building? Are you solving a problem that you have?

Hit REPLY and let me know.

Talk soon,

-Paul Solt
